DAVID said to the Lord, I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD (Psalm 116:17). The word sacrifice means slay or slaughter. Are you ready to ask the Lord to give you the courage to slay what stands in the way of you, offering Him a thanksgiving that will cost you? A king once offered to purchase an animal for David to sacrifice, and his response was, … neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing (2 Samuel 24:24).
We are thankful to God for many things, such as our home, family, health, etc. How thankful are you for the trial you’re going through right now? This type of thanksgiving requires a leaning, not to our own understanding, but to acknowledge Jesus is working all things together for our good (Proverbs 3:5,6; Romans 8:28). Are you ready to let go of the pain someone has caused you, to offer thanksgiving to the Lord that requires you to forgive? This type of offering goes deep and will reach a place in us that requires a slaying of self in order to offer it up to the Lord (Romans 12:1). This type of offering requires us to acknowledge that Jesus is Lord, Master of all of you. It requires us to come to the end of our self. We can’t get to this place without the grace of God because it will take the power of God in us to offer us the sacrifice of thanksgiving.
