“BE of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD” (Psalm 31:24). God told Joshua, “Be strong and of a good courage…” (Joshua 1:6). What is a good courage? Courage here is defined as a willingness to take action, to be firmed in one’s decisions. So, what is God saying to David and Joshua, to us? If you are willing to take action, to be firm in the truth about Him, God will strengthen our hearts (thoughts/feelings), resulting in a firm character.
It is good courage when we doubt not the goodness of God. When we stop doubting what proceeds out of the mouth of God because...
“Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him” (Proverbs 30:5).
Jesus is our example. He demonstrated good courage when He said to Satan, “It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God” (Luke 4:4). He took action, stood firm in the truth about His Father; therefore, He could withstand the onslaught and lies of the enemy. This type of courage only comes from an abiding relationship with Christ. A day-to-day abiding, reading, studying, believing, and obeying God’s word. The result of good courage is a strong heart. Be of a good courage today. And He shall strengthen your heart.
