Comfort in our Affliction

King David said to the Lord, “This is my comfort in my affliction: for Thy word hath quickened me.” Psalm 119:50. And the apostle Paul shared, “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.

The word comfort in the bible means to be at rest. It means to know that we are in the sheltering arms of the Almighty. To be at rest is to know by faith that the sorrow we carry will not overpower us, for God’s shoulders are big enough to carry us through even our darkest hour.

Not only is He a Person of comfort, but of great compassion. “But Thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.” Psalm 86:15. Never forgot that Christ is touched with the feelings of our infirmities. He understands our suffering, and He carries us in His arms, close to His heart. And He will do so until we are strong enough to once again walk beside Him.

He that is gracious loves you… Christ is comforting you and has provided you a safe place to rest in Him, for He bears the heaviest part of your sorrow because He will not allow it to overwhelm you.

We serve a wonderful, merciful Saviour and His name is Jesus.
